About StopTheCatalogs.com
What This Site Is
StopTheCatalogs.com is a practical, no-nonsense directory for getting unwanted mail-order catalogs out of your mailbox. Every guide here exists to answer one question — how do I stop this catalog? — and to answer it with steps you can actually follow, using the real opt-out pages, phone numbers, and registries that the senders honor.
We don't sell catalogs and we don't sell your information. The goal is the opposite: fewer catalogs, less clutter, and less of your personal data circulating on rented mailing lists.
The Method We Teach
Catalogs reach you through several separate channels, so there's no single button that stops them all. Our guides are built around four proven tools, used together:
- DMAchoice — the mail-preference registry run by the Association of National Advertisers; one registration suppresses your name across most national mailers for ten years.
- OptOutPrescreen.com — the credit bureaus' statutory opt-out for prescreened credit and insurance offers (the "catalogs" that are really credit pitches).
- Catalog Choice — a free nonprofit database of nearly 10,000 senders you can opt out of one at a time.
- PaperKarma — an app that files opt-outs from a photo of the mailer, for the stubborn senders the registries miss.
Our cornerstone guide, How to Stop Getting Catalogs in the Mail, walks through all four in order. Start there.
The Kinds of Guides You'll Find
- Per-catalog guides — one post per brand (L.L.Bean, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, and a growing list), because many large retailers require you to opt out with them directly rather than through a registry.
- Category guides — clothing, home goods, and other clusters, with the shared opt-out steps and the brands that belong to each.
- Situation guides — moving to a new address, stopping a previous resident's catalogs, and stopping charity and nonprofit mailers, each of which needs a different approach.
- Comparisons — head-to-head breakdowns like DMAchoice vs PaperKarma vs Catalog Choice so you can pick the right tool first.
We're actively expanding the per-catalog directory, with the aim of covering every catalog a typical U.S. household receives.
How We Keep Guides Accurate
Brand opt-out pages move and break often, so we verify the URLs and phone numbers in each guide before publishing and update them as senders change their processes. Where a retailer has stopped honoring third-party opt-out services — L.L.Bean is one example — we say so plainly and point you to the direct route that actually works.
Transparency
Some guides include an affiliate link to PaperKarma, marked with a disclosure. If you use one of those links and subscribe, StopTheCatalogs.com may earn a commission at no additional cost to you — and you can always use the free tools above instead. Affiliate revenue never changes which method we recommend; the free registries come first in every guide because they work.
