How to Stop Athleta Catalogs (Free + Paid Ways)

Why Athleta's Catalog Keeps Showing Up

One phone call is the documented way to stop Athleta's printed catalog, and the number isn't on the catalog. It's in the privacy policy of Gap Inc. , Athleta's parent company: "You may request that we stop sending you postal mail offers through the United States post office by calling us at: 1-866-237-4007." Everything else on this page either supports that call or covers the parts of Athleta's marketing it doesn't reach.

The policy is written for Gap Inc. and its subsidiaries, and it names the family of brands it covers: Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic and Athleta. It applies to personal information collected online, offline and from third parties, including when you use the brands' websites and apps, shop in their stores, contact customer service, or take part in loyalty programs, contests and other promotions. So an online order, a store purchase, an Encore rewards sign-up or a customer-service call can each connect your name and address to the company's records.

The same policy describes a second kind of sharing that has nothing to do with the catalog itself. Gap Inc. says it may share information about you and your interactions with it, both online and offline, along with your email address or other identifiers, and that under some state privacy laws that can count as a "sale" or "sharing" for targeted advertising. That's a separate opt-out, handled through a separate form, and it's covered below.

PaperKarma 's directory listing for Athleta sums up the usual pattern: an order is often enough to stay on the Gap Inc. file, and the catalog that follows is frequently a sale on something you already bought.

How to stop Athleta catalogs: step by step

  1. Call the direct-mail line in Gap Inc.'s privacy policy. Dial 1-866-237-4007 and ask to stop postal mail offers. Have the catalog in front of you and read the name and address exactly as they're printed on the label. The policy is Gap Inc.'s, not Athleta's alone, and it doesn't say whether one request covers every brand, so name each brand whose catalogs reach you (Athleta, and Gap, Old Navy or Banana Republic if they arrive too).

  2. Or use Athleta's own contact line. PaperKarma's verified listing gives +1-877-328-4538 as one of Athleta's own opt-out channels, alongside the Athleta website and a customer-service email address. If you'd rather deal with Athleta's customer service than the parent company's privacy line, ask them to remove your name and address from the postal mailing list.

  3. Submit a privacy request if you want the record deleted, not just suppressed. Gap Inc.'s policy lets consumers ask to access, delete or correct their personal information through its online Privacy Request Form , by calling 1-866-237-4007, or by emailing myprivacyrights@gap.com . The company verifies your identity first, starting with an email asking you to confirm your address. Deletion has a cost: the policy warns that you'll lose access to your account and any Encore rewards or benefits, and that a deleted account or membership can't be reinstated.

  4. Opt out of "Offline Info" sharing separately. To stop the company sharing information about your in-store and online activity for targeted advertising, the policy points to its Privacy Preference Webform , the "Your Privacy Choices" link in the footer of each brand's site, or the same myprivacyrights@gap.com address. This doesn't stop the catalog. It limits where your information goes.

  5. Don't count on DMAchoice for Athleta. The Federal Trade Commission's junk-mail guidance describes DMAchoice, run by the Association of National Advertisers, as stopping most, but not all, promotional mail, for a $6 processing fee and a 10-year registration. PaperKarma's Athleta listing adds a note specific to this brand: DMAchoice will not stop Athleta mail, because Athleta is not an active member of the ANA. Register anyway if the rest of your mailbox is the problem, but the direct request is the step that reaches Athleta. For the rest of the junk mail, not just catalogs, OptOut.ws has a step-by-step guide.

  6. Optional: a mail-management app. PaperKarma's listing describes two routes: contact Athleta yourself for free, or have the app send the request, which it offers on a limited number of free opt-outs before charging. For a single brand, the phone call in step 1 costs nothing.

What the catalog request doesn't cover

A postal opt-out is one of several separate choices in Gap Inc.'s policy, and each has its own route:

  • Email. Use the "unsubscribe" link in any marketing email. The policy says you'll still get transactional messages, such as those about purchases or the Encore rewards program.
  • Text messages. Reply STOP to a marketing text. The policy notes you may be on more than one text list, so you may need to opt out of each.
  • Push notifications. These are controlled through your device settings.
  • Targeted advertising. Handled through the Privacy Preference Page and webform in step 4, and, per the policy, a browser sending a Global Privacy Control signal is opted out on that site automatically.

The policy also says Gap Inc. does not sell or share SMS phone numbers or opt-in consent for third-party marketing.

What to expect

Gap Inc.'s policy doesn't give a processing time for postal requests. PaperKarma's Athleta listing puts a typical timeline at 8 to 12 weeks, whether you contact Athleta yourself or use the app, and explains why: a catalog that arrives during that window was likely already printed and labeled before the request was processed. Mark a date about 12 weeks after your call. Keep the label from any catalog that arrives before then. If you need to follow up, it shows exactly which name and address the company is mailing.

Previous resident, or recently moved?

If catalogs come addressed to someone who no longer lives with you, call 1-866-237-4007 or Athleta's line and give that person's name exactly as printed, with your address. Say plainly that they no longer receive mail there. If you're the one who moved, your old request was tied to your old address, so make a new request once you're settled at the new one.

What doesn't work

Recycling an addressed catalog sends nothing back to Athleta. Unsubscribing from marketing email doesn't stop printed mail, because the policy lists email and direct mail as separate choices with separate routes. Registering with DMAchoice won't reach Athleta, per PaperKarma's note on its ANA membership. The Offline Info webform limits sharing for advertising but isn't a catalog opt-out. And OptOutPrescreen, the credit-bureau opt-out, covers prescreened credit and insurance offers only. PaperKarma's listing notes it won't stop Athleta mail.

Keeping your address off the list afterward

An opt-out records your name and address at the time you make it. A new order, a gift shipped to your home under someone else's name, or a new Encore sign-up can create a fresh record, so if catalogs return after a purchase, repeat the call. If you use an Athleta account, the policy notes you can review and update certain information and preferences by signing in and opening "your account."

Frequently asked questions

What's the fastest way to stop the Athleta catalog? Call 1-866-237-4007, the direct-mail line in Gap Inc.'s privacy policy, and ask to stop postal mail offers. Athleta's own customer line, +1-877-328-4538, is the alternative PaperKarma lists.

Will DMAchoice stop Athleta catalogs? No. PaperKarma's Athleta listing says DMAchoice won't stop Athleta mail because Athleta isn't an active ANA member.

Does one request also stop Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic catalogs? The privacy policy covers all four brands and gives one direct-mail number, but it doesn't say whether a single request applies to every brand. Name each brand you want removed when you call.

Will deleting my data stop the catalog? A deletion request removes the information the company holds, but the policy warns it also ends your account and Encore rewards permanently. If you just want the mail to stop, the postal opt-out in step 1 is the lighter option.

How long until the catalogs stop? PaperKarma's listing gives 8 to 12 weeks as typical. Pieces already printed and labeled can still arrive in that window.
