How to Stop Boden Catalogs: Phone, Email and Mail Requests

Why Boden's Catalog Keeps Arriving

Allow eight to twelve weeks. That is the window PaperKarma gives on its Boden USA listing for a catalog opt-out with Boden , and it is the number to keep in mind before the first phone call. Print runs are scheduled in advance, so a catalog that was already labeled can still land in your mailbox after you have asked Boden to stop.

Boden is a British clothing brand that Johnnie Boden started in 1991 with a small UK mailing, according to PaperKarma, and its U.S. shop runs from us.boden.com, with customer relations in Pittston, Pennsylvania. Boden's U.S. privacy notice says the company uses customer information to send catalogs, special offers and promotions from time to time. PaperKarma draws a useful line here: the mail that keeps coming is a catalog, not an order or a return.

You land on the list by ordering, by asking for a catalog, or by turning up on a list that Boden mails, buys or shares, and PaperKarma notes the company may sell names and addresses to marketing partners. Boden's U.S. notice lists requesting a catalog among the ways it collects your contact details. It also says what happens after you opt out: if you have asked Boden not to send postal marketing, it may pass your information to marketing partners so that you are added to a suppression list and no longer receive postal marketing from it.

The demand for an exit is not small. PaperKarma's directory of popular catalogs shows more than 25,000 opt-out requests for Boden USA. PaperKarma also says Mini Boden and the women's line share a single U.S. file, so one request should cover both.

How to stop Boden catalogs: step by step

  1. Contact Boden directly; that is its own answer. Boden's U.S. privacy notice answers the question "How can I change my marketing preferences?" with a single instruction: contact customer service with your request, and include your full name, address and email. Ask in so many words for the printed catalogs to stop, because email and postal marketing are handled separately (see the email section below).

  2. Call customer service and ask for the catalog to stop. The number is 1-866-206-9508, staffed 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. EST Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST on weekends, per Boden's U.S. rights page . PaperKarma suggests asking for two things on the same call: that the catalogs stop, and that Boden stop sharing your name and address with marketing partners. Have the mailing label in front of you and read the name and address exactly as printed. Plan for five to ten minutes or longer, depending on the phone tree and the hold time.

  3. Or put the request in writing. Boden's rights page lists email, post, LiveChat and phone as ways to submit a request, and the postal address is Boden, 180 Armstrong Road, Pittston, PA 18640-9628. It asks for your full name, full address including zip code, email address, and an account or order number if you have one. PaperKarma's suggested wording asks Boden to remove the address from all direct mail lists, including its internal house list and any rented or third-party lists, and to confirm in writing once the suppression is complete. That wording works equally well in a letter or in a message to the email address on Boden's rights page.

  4. File the do-not-sell-or-share request for the data side. The same rights page says customers can opt out of the sale of their personal information to third parties, opt out of having their data shared for targeted advertising, and ask Boden to limit the use of sensitive personal data. That matters because PaperKarma cautions that a promotional opt-out stops marketing mail but does not always stop the underlying address from being shared. It adds that these rights apply if you live in a state with an active consumer privacy law, such as California's CCPA. Where the law applies, ask for a deletion or do-not-share request in the same breath as the catalog opt-out.

  5. Let an app file it, if you would rather photograph than call. Photograph the catalog and PaperKarma files the opt-out for you. Once you have opted out of Boden, the same app can opt you out of 100,000+ other mailers. Its Boden listing offers one of four free opt-outs for this sender and lists contacting Boden yourself as free, so the app is the alternative for people who prefer a photo to a phone tree. Confirm current terms before you sign up.

  6. Add two independent registries as backups, with one caveat. Catalog Choice describes itself as a non-profit organization working to stop junk mail; look for Boden there by name. DMAchoice is the Association of National Advertisers' mail preference service, which PaperKarma describes as asking about 1,100 participating national companies to suppress your address from prospect promotional mail for ten years, and not covering companies you already buy from. PaperKarma's listing is blunt on one point: DMAchoice will not stop mail from Boden USA, because Boden is not an active ANA member. Register there to thin out other catalogs, not to stop Boden, and check the current fee on the DMAchoice site before paying.

What to expect

Boden's U.S. privacy notice says an email unsubscribe can take five business days to update across its systems. It does not say how long a catalog opt-out takes; PaperKarma's listing says to allow eight to twelve weeks. Count from the day you made the request, and read one more catalog inside that window as pipeline lag rather than a failed opt-out.

If Boden catalogs are still arriving after the full twelve weeks, call 1-866-206-9508 again and give the date of your first request. Then repeat the written request, add the do-not-share ask from step 4, and keep a copy with the date you sent it, so the next contact starts from a record.

Email is not the same as post

The email sign-up box on Boden's U.S. site says you can unsubscribe at any time by contacting the company or clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of its emails. It also says that signing up means you are happy to receive marketing emails. That covers the email list. Nothing in it says the postal catalog stops too, which is why the phone and written routes above ask for the catalogs to stop by name. Clicking unsubscribe in an email is worth doing, but it is not a substitute for the phone call or the letter.

Previous resident, or recently moved?

If the catalog is addressed to someone who used to live at your address, PaperKarma says to call Boden at 1-866-206-9508 and give that person's name along with your address. You can also use the app to scan the mailer, mark the recipient as a previous resident and submit the opt-out. Do not mark anyone as deceased unless they are. The guide to stopping catalogs addressed to a previous resident covers the wider problem.

If you are the one who moved, the opt-out does not follow you. PaperKarma notes that marketing lists are tied to a specific name and address, and that a postal forwarding order can send a few more packets to the new place. Call again with the new address, or use the app once you are settled.

What doesn't work

Dropping the catalog in the recycling bin tells Boden nothing; every route above works because someone asks for the removal. DMAchoice alone will not do it for this brand, as covered in step 6. And an opt-out has no bearing on orders: PaperKarma's listing notes that stopping catalogs does not stop a shipment or a return, so you can clear the mailing list without touching an order in progress.

Keeping your address off the list once it stops

PaperKarma warns that a later order can put an address back on a catalog file. At checkout and in account settings, leave marketing boxes unchecked, and if catalogs return after a new purchase, repeat the request rather than assuming the old opt-out still applies. Keep the date and the name of the representative you spoke to, since it shortens the next call.

Stopping Boden stops Boden and nothing else; every other sender keeps its own list. Want to stop all junk mail, not just catalogs? The How to Stop All Junk Mail guide on OptOut.ws covers the wider problem.

Frequently asked questions

Does unsubscribing from the emails stop the catalog? Not by itself. The unsubscribe link handles the email list, so ask for postal catalogs to stop in a separate request, by phone or in writing.

What does Boden itself say to do? Its U.S. privacy notice says to contact customer service with your request and include your full name, address and email.

What number do I call? 1-866-206-9508, the customer service line listed on Boden's rights page and the phone contact PaperKarma's Boden USA listing gives.

Will the national mail preference registry stop these catalogs? No. PaperKarma's listing says DMAchoice will not stop mail from Boden USA because Boden is not an active ANA member.

How long until the catalog stops? PaperKarma says to allow eight to twelve weeks. One more edition may arrive if it was already printed and labeled.

Do I have to pay to stop the catalog? No. Contacting Boden directly is free, per PaperKarma's listing, and the app is the alternative for people who would rather photograph the mailer.

Does one request cover the children's line too? PaperKarma says Mini Boden and the women's line share the U.S. file, so one request should cover both. Mention both when you call.
