Why RH Sourcebooks Are Worth Stopping

In June 2014, ABC7 San Francisco reported that Restoration Hardware was "mailing a 17-pound bundle of catalogs to millions of people who never asked for it." The station described "3,300-page, 13-book catalogs" left on doorsteps, and a recycling center that needed a special conveyor to handle them. RH still mails these books, which it now calls Sourcebooks. If they come to your house, you can stop them with one form on RH's own website.

RH gives its own reason for mailing them. In the same story, ABC7 quoted CEO Gary Friedman's report to investors: "Our Source Books are an important part of our multi-channel, go-to-market strategy and cannot be replaced by the Internet." So the books will keep coming until you ask RH to stop.

The form covers every RH brand at once. RH's Cancel Sourcebook Delivery page says: "If you wish to stop receiving sourcebooks from all RH brands, please enter your contact information exactly as it appears on your mailing label."

How to stop RH Sourcebooks: step by step

  1. Get your mailing label. Find a recent Sourcebook or the box it came in, and look at the label. RH asks for your details "exactly as it appears on your mailing label," so copy the spelling, the middle initial, the apartment number and the street name as printed.

  2. Fill in RH's cancellation form. Go to Cancel Sourcebook Delivery on rh.com. You can also find it in the Customer Experience menu on RH's site. The form asks for first name, last name, address, apartment or suite, city, postal code, country, state and phone. Enter them to match the label, then click Submit.

  3. Do it again for each name on a label. If Sourcebooks arrive under two names, or two versions of your name, fill in the form once for each label. RH asks for the details exactly as printed, so a label with a different spelling may need its own request.

  4. Stop RH emails separately if you want. The Sourcebook form does not change your email. RH's email preferences page lets you choose emails by brand (RH, RH Outlet, RH Baby & Child, RH Teen, RH Restaurants and RH texts), limit them to one a week, pause them for 30, 60 or 90 days, or stop all marketing emails.

What to expect

RH does not post a timeline on its cancellation page. Catalog Choice does. Its Restoration Hardware listing says RH "accepts opt-out requests on their website" and that "it can take up to 90 days for your request to be processed."

That means a Sourcebook already printed and labeled may still arrive after you submit the form. In 2014, ABC7 reported RH saying it shipped the catalogs "just once a year to save fuel." That is no longer the pattern, as the next section shows, so a book can arrive at almost any time of year. If a new Sourcebook arrives more than 90 days after you submitted the form, check its label against what you entered. If anything differs, submit the form again with the new details.

RH now releases several Sourcebooks a year

RH's press releases list three Sourcebooks in 2026 so far: the Outdoor Sourcebook in February, the Interiors Spring Sourcebook on February 23 with "nearly 600 pages," and the Modern Sourcebook on August 4 with "nearly 500 pages." The same releases say RH sells through "retail galleries, sourcebooks and online at RH.com, RHModern.com, RHBabyandChild.com, RHTEEN.com and Waterworks.com."

That is why the "all RH brands" wording on the cancellation form matters. One request is meant to cover all of these books, not just the one in your hands. If a different RH book turns up after 90 days, check its label and submit the form again for that name and address.

Using Catalog Choice for RH

Catalog Choice's RH listing does not file the request for you. It says to "visit the relevant page on the Restoration Hardware website to complete your opt-out request," which is the same form as step 2. For stores with a comments box, Catalog Choice suggests this text: "Please remove me from your postal mailings list. I no longer wish to receive your mailings. Do not rent or sell my name or address to other organizations." RH's form has no comments box, so the form itself is the request.

Stop the other home catalogs too

For catalogs from companies you have never bought from, register with DMAchoice , the mail preference service run by the Association of National Advertisers. Its FAQ lists the fee as "$8 for online and $9 for mail-in registration," says your choices are kept for 10 years, and says to "allow 90 days for your request to take effect." It also says that if you have bought from a company in the past two years, "you will need to ask them to be removed directly." That includes RH if you are a customer, which is why the RH form comes first.

Frequently asked questions

Does one form stop every RH catalog? RH's page says the form is for anyone who wishes "to stop receiving sourcebooks from all RH brands." Submit it once per name and address on your labels.

How long does it take? RH does not say. Catalog Choice's RH listing says up to 90 days.

Do I need an RH account? No. The cancellation form asks only for your name, address and phone.

Can I stop Sourcebooks for a previous resident? RH's page does not say. Catalog Choice's FAQ says you can opt out for a previous resident "by entering their name in the opt-out form rather than your own," so fill in RH's form with that person's name and your address, as printed on the label. Will DMAchoice stop RH Sourcebooks? Not if you have bought from RH in the past two years; the DMAchoice FAQ says to ask those companies directly. Even for other mailers, the FTC says DMAchoice "will stop most, but not all, promotional mail." Use the RH form.

Why were RH catalogs so big? ABC7 reported in 2014 that RH defended the books as a way to show its full range, quoting the CEO saying the internet "would require a customer to click 10,000 times to understand the difference."
